Active Release Techniques A.R.T. consist of soft tissue treatment applied through a massage-based technique and system of movements to treat muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia and nerves. When over-used, muscles and soft tissue accumulate acute tears or micro-tramau and do not get enough oxygen to rebuild properly.

These factors produce scar tissue in the affected area, which ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
